Artist Trust EDGE at Port Townsend!

I’m very excited to say that this week I’ve been at the Artist Trust EDGE intensive program at Centrum (near Port Townsend).  It is just beautiful out here!

And WHEW!  This program is Intense!  …BUT, we are all having a great time. I’m making friends with many interesting and talented artists, and working hard on developing the way we present ourselves as artists.  Yesterday, we worked on our Elevator Speech, and talked about tons of issues around communications.  Previous days, we presented and got feedback on our portfolios, and spent a fair bit of time working on the dreaded Artist Statement, professional resumes, and approaches to working with galleries. This week is not really focused on art-making, nor really any critique of the work being presented. It is all dealing with the way we present the work we already made; and it’s tackling some really hard questions about why we do what we do, and how we see ourselves (or how do we want others to see us and our work).  Today we’re getting more into legal questions, and Friday is dealing with financial ones.  It’s hard work!

We have our Grand Finale presentations on Saturday – if you are in the area, I encourage you to attend!  Presentations are open to the public.

  • Where: Wheeler Theater, Fort Worden, 200 Battery Way, Port Townsend, WA 98368
  • When: 1:30-5:30 (I think mine will be sometime around 3pm, if you can’t spend the whole afternoon!)

I’d hoped to have some time to update some more parts of this website while I’m out here “on vacation” (HA!) and maybe I will still have some time for another update later on.  I definitely have new work to share!  We have limited internet access and very limited time while we’re out here.  And there is all of the glorious landscape to soak in as well.   Here’s a shot from my evening run earlier this week.  The arting, it is a-happening.
